1st case in point:
I was pretty offended that the casting people thought the audience would accept this pairing as young/old versions. And what age difference are they supposed to play? Tobey Maguire has such a baby face he looks only 5 yrs older, in which case the change in appearance would be way too great.
2nd case in point:
Edison/Andy Lau, Yue Man Lok/ Tony Leung in "Infernal Affairs"
3rd case in point:
Wentworth Miller and Anthony Hopkins in "The Human Stain"
4th case in point:
That kid and Christian Bale in "Batman Begins"
They may have cast this kid purely because he's got that traumatized look.
EXAMPLES OF GOOD YOUNG/OLD VERSIONS:
That awesome kid and Audrey in "Amelie"
That kid and Ethan Hawke in "Great Expectations"
EDITED TO ADD: another pairing I think is great is that kid and Collin Farrell in "Alexander."

vk... do you still keep up w/ the IMDb discussion on Kavalier... they'll prob screw up the cast by making the mistake you described...
i really think maggie gyllenhaal'd be a good Rosa!!!
Firstly... I've given up hoping that this movie will ever get made! Can't these people get their act together?
I really think they should use the same actors for young and old characters. They can easily make the story span only around 10 years and age the actors, etc.
I've always thought of Rosa as sort of like Marisa Tomei or Jamie-Lynn Sigler, but that's just me. I know everyone wants Natalie Portman....
I just can't imagine anyone doing the "Lampedusa" part.
it annoys me to no end that people want natalie portman. Did they even read the book?
