My last blog post made me really want to play the piano. I found a youtube vid with a girl who teaches the entire "Spell" accompaniment by demonstration, it's cool.

I'm also traumatized because my mom said she went to the restaurant I blogged about (two posts ago) and said it was really bad. Now I'm all paranoid that they normally suck and were just good when the magazine went.

Hmm, don't you go as an ordinary customer?

Nope! We get wined and dined for free then only write the good, to put it mildly.

OMG! That is like, a travesty. I dunno if this is just me not understanding how journalism works but in HK Magazine the writers explicitly state that they go as anonymous diners and do not let the establishment know they're reviewers... but I guess you have to take pics etc?

Yeah that's a totally different thing. Our mag "features", whereas HK Mag "reviews". So with us, it's basically like, Hey Good Restaurant, we want to feature you so when's a good time?

So yeah... I mean our whole mag isn't really journalism, more like essayism. We tell tourists what to eat, not "what not to eat", so...

Sad reality, it's a business first and foremost. So we try to have good relationship with restaurants.

But anyway it's totally diff, HK Mag is a news mag, so... I always try to convince my coworkers (even my boss) that we are not competitors with them because it's SO DIFF! We aren't writing about underground bands and sad land development and aren't slamming restaurants...
